Does FutureSmart Document Intelligence report when an upload cannot be processed?

FutureSmart Document Intelligence passed this upload scenario: it reported both bad PDFs as failures instead of ingesting them. The truncated file and the password-protected file were both rejected; the app said each could not be uploaded, and the API returned HTTP 500.

Each test case is judged on its own: Pass, Fail, Not gradable, or Untested. The scenario result above counts this row.

Why this result

The case required an unprocessable file to be reported as a failure. Both bad PDFs were unreadable, and each upload produced a failure message or a 500 response, so the product reported the problem instead of acting as if ingestion succeeded.

Also observed on this row

API error detail. The API returned only a generic internal error, while the app screen showed the more specific processing message.

No document row. Rejected files never became document rows; the page stayed at Failed 0 and reported the problem at upload.

Limitations of this result

The two attached PDFs are the test files, but the page does not show they are byte for byte the uploaded files.

Only the truncated and password-protected files were tested; the not-a-PDF case was not run.

Configuration and setup

How this tool was set up for the run and what the test needed in place. Each row is a fact from the run's records; a fact the records do not hold is left out, not guessed.

Set up before the run
A genuinely unprocessable file — corrupt, truncated, or password-protected — had to go through the normal upload path, then the product's own ingestion status had to be read.

How this scenario is graded

How we decide Pass, Fail and Not gradable. The same rules apply to every tool tested on this scenario.

How results are decided

Each test case gets one result per tool: Pass, Fail or Not gradable. A test case we haven't run yet shows Untested. There are no partial results.

The rules
  • Pass: the tool did everything the test expected, and nothing it said contradicts the correct answer.
  • Fail: at least one expected behaviour clearly didn't happen; the row says which and quotes the tool.
  • Not gradable: our evidence couldn't settle the outcome (for example a record we needed is missing). It is never counted as a fail, and the row says what's missing.

Act on this result

Nothing filed here edits the run or the grade. A challenge opens a review, and a review can produce a new run or a re-grade — which becomes the current result and leaves this one in the history.
